What is a Boiler Steam Drum?

Working Principle

Separation of Steam and Water: After the steam-water mixture from the water-cooled wall enters the steam bag, it is first separated initially by centrifugal force through the cyclone separator and other equipment, and most of the water is separated out. Then, the steam passes through the wave plate separator and so on, using the water on the metal wall to form a film of water flowing downward, further removing the water in the steam, and finally through the steam cleaning device, using the difference in the density of the water to separate by gravity, to ensure the quality of the steam.

Water Circulation: The water in the steam bag flows to the mud drum at the bottom of the boiler through the descending pipe, and becomes a vapor-water mixture after being heated in the furnace chamber, and returns to the steam bag through the ascending pipe due to the change in density, forming a natural cycle.

Functions

Separation of steam and water and steam purification: to ensure the supply of clean, dry steam to the superheater and steam turbine and other downstream equipment, to prevent the steam with water caused by superheater scaling, steam turbine corrosion and other problems.

Storage and buffer: a certain amount of saturated water and steam are stored in the steam bag, which can slow down the speed of steam pressure change and play the role of buffer when the steam load changes, when the water supply is not coordinated with the load for a short period of time, the boiler can also be maintained in stable operation.

Water quality regulation and treatment: through the continuous sewage device, can control the salt content of the furnace water and the concentration of impurities, and at the same time can be dosed in the steam bag to prevent scale formation and corrosion occurs.
