Custom Seawater-Cooled Condenser for Marine Air Conditioning
Time :Oct 03, 2026

Vrcooler offers custom seawater-cooled condensers for marine air-conditioning systems, with dimensions and connections tailored to the available installation space. A horizontal shell-and-tube configuration provides a practical layout for equipment replacement, particularly where existing pipework and support positions need to be retained.

Hot refrigerant vapor enters from the compressor and transfers heat to circulating seawater. As heat is removed, the refrigerant condenses into liquid and continues toward the filter drier. The condenser duty includes both the heat absorbed by the evaporator and the energy added to the refrigerant during compression.

The illustrated arrangement has a body length marked at 1,070 mm and a body diameter of 221.5 mm, with seawater piping marked at 2 inches. The seawater inlet and outlet are positioned at one end, while two feet support the horizontal body. Final connection sizes, mounting dimensions, and clearance for servicing are confirmed against the installation before manufacture.

In a typical shell-and-tube condenser, seawater flows through the tubes while refrigerant condenses around them. Copper-nickel tubing, including 90/10 and 70/30 grades, can be considered for seawater service. Material selection also needs to account for water quality, tube velocity, refrigerant compatibility, and the interaction between tubes, tube sheets, and water-end components.

Thermal selection starts with the required heat rejection, refrigerant type, condensing temperature, and maximum seawater inlet temperature. Available water flow and allowable pressure drop help determine the tube arrangement. These operating conditions establish the required heat-transfer surface, while design pressure and temperature requirements guide the mechanical specification.

Maintenance access is another design priority. Removable water-end covers can provide access for tube inspection and cleaning. Suitable seawater filtration and a cleaning plan help manage debris and fouling during service.

For a custom marine condenser or replacement unit, send Vrcoolertech the existing drawing, refrigerant details, operating conditions, and connection requirements to support thermal selection and dimensional matching.
